Device status information

In the top left of the main window, Cropel Hard Drive Diagnostic displays general information about status of the devices which are monitored. There can be the following statuses:

  • Device(s) OK - the number of devices, which are monitored by Cropel. All devices are fine.
  • Failure predicted - means Cropel Hard Drive Diagnostic software predicts that one or several devices can fail in a week or two. Available only for the subscribers or during the trial period.
  • Imminent failure - indicates that one or more devices failed and needs immediate replacement.

Cropel version information

Below the information on a device status, there is an information about what Cropel version you use and what the limitations are:

  • Evaluation - shows how many days of the evaluation period remain.
  • Trial expired. No predictions - means that the evaluation period has expired. Cropel still monitors all the devices and alerts about imminent failure but stops providing failure predictions.
  • Subscription expired. No prediction - means that the period of the subscription has expired. Cropel still monitors all the devices and alerts about imminent failure, but doesn't provide failure predictions any longer.

Device list

Below the toolbar, Cropel Hard Drive Diagnostic software displays the list of available data storage devices. There are the following columns:

Drive - contains model, serial number, and capacity of a device.

Status - can be one of the following:

  • OK
  • Unknown - is displayed for the devices which don't support S.M.A.R.T.
  • Failed

Failure prediction - the following predictions are possible:

  • No problem - indicates that time to a failure is far too much. Predictions for a long time are not accurate enough, therefore such predictions are not displayed.
  • Not available - is shown for those devices for which it was impossible to get a prediction (e.g. because of a network error).
  • No S.M.A.R.T. - is shown for a device with Unknown status.
  • Now
  • Predicted time to a failure, in days or weeks.

Toolbar buttons

More/Less

When you click these buttons, an additional field with the detailed information on all available S.M.A.R.T. attributes for the selected devices appears/hides. Note that the detailed mode displays all predictions including long-term.

When you select an attribute from the list, a chart with recorded attribute values, according to Cropel database, is displayed. Charts can be one of the following types:

  • history - attribute values are displayed as a function of time;
  • frequency - attribute values are displayed according to frequency of occurrence of a value. Such a chart is available only for some attributes, e.g. for the attributes with IDs 190 and 194 (temperatures).

Stop & Exit

Clicking the button stops Cropel and the S.M.A.R.T. attribute values for all the devices are not monitored and collected any longer.
